Lawrence Wright (15.02. 1888 – 19.05.1964) was a British popular music composer and publisher. He was born in Leicester and opened a music shop in the city in 1906. A short time later his first song, "Down By The Stream", was published, and by 1912 he had established the Lawrence Wright Music Co in Denmark Street, London.
He went on to write (or co-write) over 600 songs under his own name and as Horatio Nicholls, including the World War I propaganda song "Are We Downhearted? No!", and would receive an Ivor Novello Award in 1962 for Outstanding Contribution to British Popular Music. He also wrote songs under the pseudonyms of Gene Williams and Betsy O'Hogan,

He was one of the very rare composers of popular music in this period to make a substantial amount of money - it had not been unusual to see composers who had written dozens of hits die in poverty

Our opening march was written by Horatio Nicholls - Enjoy

During the 1950s, Chris Helme was often asked by relatives: 'What do you want to be when you grow up?' A policeman was always his answer. A child of the Fifties, he was brought up to respect the local police who seemed to know everyone.

All in a Day's Work: 30 Years as Brighouse Bobby is his journey to achieving that ambition culminating with being awarded the British Empire Medal for services to his community in 1990. A local bobby had to deal with everything that happened on his 'patch'. This book takes the reader through a catalogue of sad, humorous, and almost unbelievable incidents in the life of a local policeman.  £12.00 + £3 p/p - Published 2015

This fascinating collection of over 200 photographs illustrates some of the historical developments which have shaped the town of Brighouse and its surrounding communities. Informative and detailed captions bring additional colour to the images, exploring the buildings, transport and shops of Brighouse and its surrounding settlements, as well as the close-knit communities which have formed the heart of the area.

This book will rekindle fond memories of the past for anyone who has lived or worked in Brighouse, and will delight those who want to find out more about the colourful history of the town. £12.00 +£3 p/p - Published 2005

Sunny Vale Pleasure Gardens, near Brighouse, was the Belle Vue or Alton Towers of West Yorkshire. It opened as a garden in 1880 but with the inclusion of amusements in 1883 it became a hugely popular venue for sunday strollers, local sunday school groups and day trippers from around the north of England for the next seventy-five years.

This collection of more than 180 images, complemented by detailed captions and reminiscences of the Gardens throughout their long history, will delight all who remember visiting as a child and provide a fascinating insight into this vanished, but not-forgotten, institution. £12.00 + £3 p/p - Published 2007.
